Ms. Zhou has taught in the New York City public school for over 12 years. She was evaluated as a Highly Effective teacher in the NYC Department of Education because her students achieved high test scores in the New York State 8th Grade Science Exam and the Earth Science Regent Exam. She partnered with YMCA and ExpandEdSchools to run an after-school STEM program for two years. This program was design-based and hand-on learning. Students designed and created engineering projects in her STEM program. In March 2018, Ms.Zhou led an engineering workshop at the NSTA Conference (National Science Teacher Association) in Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. She described and introduced the Design2Learn curriculum and her Engineering club to other science educators in the country. Ms.Zhou was an active participant in the CS4All movement in the New York City schools. She taught Scratch coding and Python programming language to her middle school students. She also started a LEGO MINDSTORM EV3 Robotics club in her middle school. She wrote her own computer science curriculum and prepared the teaching materials. Ms.Zhou was a teacher of the DRK12 Robotics program at New York University Tandon School of Engineering. She worked with the Ph.D students from NYU to develop and refine curricula that promote project-based, hands-on instruction. This robotic curriculum helps students learn, understand, and apply underlying science and math content while doing age-appropriate robotics activities. Ms. Zhou finished her Master Degree of Science Education and her Bachelor Degree of Chemistry in New York City. She is certified in teaching Chemistry, Earth Science, English As a Second Language and Bilingual Education in New York State. She is also certified in teaching Chemistry and Earth Science in Georgia State.
