We are dedicated to exploring Bharatanatyam, an ancient Indian dance form. ChitraKaavya Dance conceptualizes movement as a means of visual poetry. ChitraKaavya Dance was founded by Srilatha Singh, to explore her abiding interest in Bharatanatyam. She has learnt from eminent gurus Shri Dhananjayan, Guru Kalyani Shekhar and Ambica Buch, in her youth. More recently she refreshed her Bharatanatyam training with Divya Nair and her most recent mentor Jyotsna Sainath. Raksha Karpoor, Artistic director of ChitraKaavya, is a versatile and accomplished dancer with 15 years of training in Bharatanatyam in the Kalakshetra tradition, from Gurus Shiela Sridhar, Padmini Krishnamurthy (Muscat) and Mysore M R Krishnamurthy. Raksha is enthusiastic about teaching both Bharatanatyam and Bollywood, and exploring other forms of dance like Bellydance, and Salsa. We plan to accomplish this by innovative collaborations between dancers, musicians, writers and choreographers from diverse dance traditions and by sponsoring workshops and lecture-demonstrations to help expand artistic horizons. We are interested in performing our traditional repertoire as well as collaborating to create new and interesting dance items that can be relevant, accessible and add to the rich tapestry of Dance in the Salt Lake Valley. We would like to foster innovation and excellence in this dance form, and nurture inter-cultural conversations using the medium of performing arts. We seek to bring in artistes of international calibre to perform, give lec-dems and conduct workshops and master classes in the classical Indian dance forms.
Rated 5.0 My daughter has been learning Bharathanatyam from Chitrakaavya dance Utah for several years now. It has been a truly transformative experience under the guidance of the esteemed Shri Srilatha Singh. Her unwavering dedication, expertise, and passion for dance have created a nurturing environment that allows students to flourish. Her unique ability to balance technique, creativity, and self-expression is helping my child grow not only as a dancer but also as an individual. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to help my child learn from someone so exceptional. I cannot recommend Chitrakaavya Dance highly enough - it is a truly special place where dance becomes a journey of self-discovery and artistic expression.
