STARKTALK is a nationally recognized program of the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland. West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District in collaboration with New York University is excited to announce the return of our summertime STARTALK student program for Urdu language. The classes will be offered to 75 students, heritage and non-heritage learners, from grade 6 to grade 12. No prior knowledge of Urdu is required. Lunch, snacks and classroom materials will be provided during the on-site program. All learners (Beginners/Intermediate/Advanced) will learn the language in a fun and interactive way and will be exposed to the culture through movies, YouTube videos and using technology in a fun way in the classrooms. In the afternoon, students will participate in engaging activities like theater, music, dance, cartoon drawing, and film making and will produce programs for their own TV station and will interview artists, scientists, professionals from the community. Students go on a field trip (location yet to be decided) related to their curriculum. Instructional hours will focus on learning the literacy skills that students will take beyond classrooms and learn to apply in real life situations. Trained teachers will make the program engaging and challenging.
