Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant
In India, where religious belief dictate the food of millions, vegetarian cooking, of necessity has grew into a cuisine of inspiring inventiveness. You need to be native to enjoy this food as the mix of eateries at Woodlands demonstrates.
Rated 3.0 The wife was on vacation and had a hankering for South Indian so we decided to drive the over 30 miles to Woodlands. There was an all you can eat buffet at lunchtime for 10.95 but we opted for the menu. My Dahi Vada was hard and tasteless. The Masalla Dosa looked good but while crisp it lacked the slight tartness of a good fermented dosa. The potatoes in the dosa did not have much flavor and almost zero salt. Accompanying Sambhar too had no salt and was missing the typical South Indian flavors of mustard seeds, curry leaves and the like. The Mrs ended up ordering some Poori Bhaji, while the pooris were ok the Bhaji turned out to be the same potatoes that were in the dosa to which come canned chick peas were added along diced tomato. Service was efficient and pleasant.
Rated 5.0 This is a vegetarian's paradise! I have eaten in at least 20 different Indian restaurants in the United States and I can say their weekend buffet is the best so far! That has everything an average Indian vegetarian can think of. A great place to be with family for a great Indian meal on weekends. I haven't tried ala carte so can't comment on that.
Rated 4.0 It was 8pm, and my family and I were craving authentic Indian food. When we walked in, we were greeted by the calm and cool atmosphere. Nice and quiet, which was a plus. We ordered some veggie spring rolls, hot and sour soup, pani puri, cholle bhatura, and puri. The veggie spring rolls and hot and sour soup (from their Indo-Chinese part of the menu) were delicious. The soup was not super hot, but I am not a big spice fan so I enjoyed it. Also, I loved the variety of vegetables in the soup. But my favourite was the pani puri. Perfect amount of spice, and a cute little teapot to pour your pani in compared to other places where they give you a plastic bowl with pani. The cholle bhatura in my opinion were not good, not the right spices in there. Puri was OK. Their salty lassi is also a must try, along with the pani puri. If you're ever in area, come here!
Rated 1.0 Disappointed with my experience at this place. I expected the place to serve authentic South Indian food based on the number of positive reviews for this place. The food is nowhere close to being authentic and is not tasty at all. The sambar is bland and the chutney tastes of just coconut. If you are looking for authentic South Indian food, look elsewhere.
