Twelve requirements of making a good pundit
I have been a Hindu Pundit practicing in San Francisco Bay area for over two decades. I do perform all sorts of Pujas and Hawaans as well as officiate at funerals and weddings. I am often asked by lay person ... what does it take to become a good Pundit ? Some of them are just curious and others have some innate desire, one day, to become a Pundit . Still others are trying to compare their own Pundits with other ones whom they have seen and heard performing Pujas.
The original Pundits were highly respected teachers and leaders of their community in India. The title of Pundit was derived from the word "pandit", a term of respect for a wise person . The Sanskrit word "pandita" means "learned". The Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word Pundit as a " learned person ". I thought about this question long and hard and have been able to come up with twelve essentials in becoming a Pundit. Here is the list in random order. It is not an exhaustive list but at least, gives the basic characteristics of being a good Pundit

Rated 5.0 Dear Panditji, We hope you have been well. It has been a few weeks since our wedding, and we have finally come up for air after spending time with family, wrapping up post-wedding gatherings, and settling back into normal life. The past few months were a whirlwind, and we wanted to take a quiet moment now to properly thank you. From the very beginning of this journey, your guidance meant so much to us. You took the time to patiently walk us through the intricacies of the Hindu wedding ceremony, ensuring we truly understood the meaning behind every ritual and vow. What stood out even more was the care you showed in helping our families — especially my wife’s parents — understand the depth and beauty of the traditions. Your calm presence and kindness made the entire process feel grounding and special. Your wisdom and worldly insights during our preparation were invaluable. You helped us approach the ceremony not just as an event, but as a sacred and meaningful milestone in our lives. On the wedding day itself, your dedication was evident from the moment you arrived an hour early to make sure everything was in place. You brought such composure and reassurance, ensuring the ceremony unfolded seamlessly. One of our main hopes for the wedding was that our guests — many of whom were experiencing a Hindu ceremony for the first time — would truly understand and appreciate its nuances. The way you translated and explained each ritual with clarity and warmth made such a profound impact. We received countless compliments from our guests about how beautifully and thoughtfully the ceremony was conducted. Your ability to honor tradition while making it accessible to everyone was truly remarkable. We are deeply grateful for your role in making our wedding not only smooth and organized, but meaningful and memorable for us and all who attended. Thank you again for your guidance, wisdom, and kindness throughout this journey. We feel very fortunate to have had you lead us into this next chapter of our lives. With sincere gratitude,
