Utkalaa is the only dance school and company in the Greater Chicago area, dedicated to a wholistic training in Odissi Dance, (and allied arts), an Indian Classical Indian Dance belonging to Indian State of Odisha, India. Regular classes and master dance classes are conducted by senior teachers throughout the year for beginners through advanced students in the traditional vocabulary with unique perspective. Courses in Dance and Allied Arts are conducted through group and private lessons using curriculum followed by premier dance institutions in United States and in Odisha, India. Classes in movement and theory, history and performance techniques are included in creative ways. Our Mission is to Inspire!!!Our Goal is to appreciate the beauty strength of authentic Indian Classical dance forms and embark upon a personal artistic journey. The purpose of Utkalaa is to promote, preserve and impart knowledge of traditional Indian arts and culture, to encourage public awareness and enjoyment of these classical dance forms, and to enrich the cultural life of the community through various activities, including providing training for adults and children through classes and workshops at affordable and subsidized fees providing a platform for students to grow as artists and exhibit their talents participation in events which specifically aim at increasing public awareness of the performing arts, and Odissi dance in particular, present self-produced repertory concerts and choreography of the dance institution in the Chicago area, and other locations; sponsoring free and paid events to provide an opportunity to learn and enjoy the classical arts of India; and it promotes the values of Indian culture, preserves an ancient art form, and forges links among Indian, US and other cultures.
