Ants are some of the most common household pests. There are a variety of ants that can be a problem in and around the home.

North America has experienced a major resurgence of these small, parasitic insects. They are called “bed bugs” because they are most often found in beds, but they are also known to hide in crevices and cracks of old furniture, floor or ceiling joints that may not be completely covered.

These flying insects are the larger, more round of the bee family. They are helpful for the environment because of their ability to pollinate crops as well as other plants. The bumblebee is considered a social insect because it lives with other bees in nests.

Cockroaches are among some of the most common household pests. These nocturnal insects have been around for a long time. They are able to adapt to their surroundings and are often difficult to find. The European earwig is the most common to Illinois and is a dark, reddish-brown insect. You can easily identify an earwig by the pincer-like protrusions at the end of their abdomen. These protrusions are called forceps.

If you’ve heard the sound of crickets at night as you sit outside, it may have sounded nice to you. However, if you’ve heard the sound in your house as you’re trying to sleep, it likely hasn’t been so nice since the “song” of the male cricket can be quite loud. These little nocturnal creatures are similar to a grasshopper in that they can jump with their hind legs.

When the weather begins to warm up, you can be sure Mosquitoes will be arriving soon. These summertime pests become most active in the evening and nighttime hours. Mosquitos move from larvae stage to adult stage within 10-14 days.
