The Chitresh Das Dance Company and Chhandam School of Kathak shaped the field of kathak dance in the United States and beyond, under the leadership of legendary artist and visionary, Pandit Chitresh Das.The Chitresh Das Dance Company was an award-winning company recognized as an international leader in Indian classical dance and featured some of the most powerful women to emerge from today’s generation of kathak artists. For more than 30 years the company graced stages and thrilled audiences around the globe with groundbreaking traditional, contemporary and collaborative productions. The Chhandam School of Kathak became one of the largest educational institutions for kathak dance in the world, based in San Francisco with affiliate centers in Boston, Los Angeles, Toronto and India. The school produced an entire generation of kathak artists and educators that continue the work of advancing kathak dance today. Pandit Chitresh Das’s legacy and his organization’s impact on kathak dance continue to reverberate far and wide today influencing dancers, artists and audiences alike.
