The Texas Legislature has taken the safety of young drivers seriously, implementing a comprehensive package of teen driving laws and educational resources to promote safety and reduce the number of teen-related car crashes. The Graduated Driver Licensing Program, passed in 1999, requires teens to take a Driver Education Course that includes classroom instruction and practical driving experience, as well as pass a driving test before obtaining a learner’s permit. Additionally, teens must receive at least 15 hours of supervised driving instruction, with at least five hours of it in the dark hours, before obtaining a driver license. When it comes to getting a driver's license, Texas residents 18 and older have a certain set of requirements that must be met for them to be able to legally drive on the state's roads. For anyone who wishes to get their Texas driver's license, there are different processes and documents that will be needed to complete the application and get the license.
