Hema Sripal trained in Bharatanatyam under Kalai Mamani Smt. K. J. Sarasa, the premier disciple of the legendary Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai. Following her arangetram at the age of nine, Hema continued to study under Smt. Sarasa. Hema has her own academy in Madras and is now in the USA. Hema has performed in most of the sabhas in Chennai and other cities in India. She has performed at a number of places abroad - Civic Centre, Malaysia; South Indian Temple, Singapore; Murugan Temple, London; Fairfields, Iowa, USA and Washington, USA. Hema has received "Kalaimamani" - the highest award by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Hema is the youngest recipient of this title.
