Takajum Dance School

Takajum is a dance school with great focus to an individualized development of each student/performer. Whether you are a student or a troupe member, takajum strives to bring out the best in you. Nisha was introduced to the world of dance at the Nataraja Kalamandir, Kerala, India under the guidance of Guru Rajalaksmi. She did her arangettam at the age of 13. She has since been researching, performing, teaching and choreographing dance and dance dramas with innovative techniques and yet staying true to her roots. She has spear-headed unique collaborations and has tried to make Indian classical and semi-classical dance appealing to a diverse set of audiences. She has done several notable collaborations and also have directed home-grown productions under the Takajum banner. She has also choreographed many dance items that have tried to give voice to many of the challenges faced by the world today. She strongly believes that art is the best medium to touch people's heart. She marches on with the motto - Practice, Persevere and strive for Perfection. Her innovative idea of collaborating with Indian (Kerala) drums and Japanese Taiko Drums (OMNY Taiko group) was very well received. Her team has collaborated with OMNY Taiko at Baruch Performing Arts Center, NY for OMNY's annual concerts and also at Drums along the Hudson festival. There are many other such projects in the works and her audience are eagerly waiting to see what is next!!
