Preya Patel is a Kathak dancer based in New York City, trained under the guidance of Guru Smt. Jamuna She has studied the art of Kathak for over 20 years completing her Kathak preliminary training and her Rang Pravesh performance. Preya has since continued to develop her art form and conducts regular classes in Queens and Long Island. She is known to be one of the rare teachers born in the US who has completed her student’s Rang Pravesh (graduation performance). Throughout her continuous association with her Guru, as a disciple and performer at SIA Academy, Preya has performed at numerous private and corporate events in the United States and Canada, including at the United Nations, MTV3, Queensboro Dance Festival, Celebrity Centre NYC, and the NY Times Travel Show. She has been fortunate enough to play lead roles in SIA’s productions of Ganesha, Bhaktambar, Krishna Astami, and Sanskar. Recently, she choreographed a number of dances for a wedding aired on the popular television show “Say Yes to the Dress.” Preya also enjoys teaching and performing Bollywood & Folk dance. Whilst incorporating the principles of discipline and hard work, Preya enjoys creating a positive and fun working environment for students to enjoy and encourages them to find their own passion and explore dance while keeping in touch with their cultural heritage.
