Ayurveda Ancient Healer

Ayurveda is an ancient medical science. The word, Ayurveda is composed of two words of Sanskrit, ayur (meaning life) and veda (meaning knowledge). Thus Ayurveda is a medical science of Ancient India. It deals with matters relating to health, day-to-day life and longevity (long life).Ayurveda gives us a model to look at each individual as a unique makeup of the three doshas and to thereby design treatment protocols that specifically address a person’s health challenges. When any of the doshas ( Vata, Pitta or Kapha ) become accumulated, Ayurveda will suggest specific lifestyle and nutritional guidelines to assist the individual in reducing the dosha that has become excessive. We may also suggest certain herbal supplements to hasten the healing process. If toxins in the body are abundant, then a cleansing process known as PanchaKarma is recommended to eliminate these unwanted toxins. Shirodhara is a form of Ayurveda therapy that involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead and can be one of the steps involved in Panchakarma. The name comes from the Sanskrit words shiro (head) and dhara (flow). The liquids used in shirodhara depend on what is being treated, but can include oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, or even plain water. The benefits of Shirodhara include treatment of sleep problems, memory loss, poor concentration, chronic headaches, stress,depression, anxiety, hypertension, facial Paralysis and degenerative conditions of the brain. The medicated oils absorbed through the scalp stimulate the hair follicles and hence shirodhara is an important therapy to treat hair problems such as premature greying of hair or hair fall. Kati Basti (Vasti) is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment used for lower backache and disorders of lumbosacral region, including slip disc, lumbar spondylosis, sciatica, spinal problems etc. Kati Vasti is a part of external oleation therapy (Snehan) in Ayurveda.
