Nimra Azmi defends the rights of journalists and media outlets to investigate, report, and publish. She has represented journalists and publishers in lawsuits and claims involving defamation, SLAPP, FOIA, invasion of privacy, and right of publicity. She advises clients on how to best leverage public records laws to gain access to materials critical for their reporting. Nimra also maintains a robust counseling and pre-publication review practice in which she mitigates defamation and copyright risks for publishers, documentarians, podcasters, and reporters, including for clients like Bloomberg News, VICE, The New York Post, The Times (UK), The Sun (UK), Sony, Spotify, Zeteo, and Discovery. She also completed a secondment at NBC News, where she counseled journalists, producers, and editors across NBC platforms on pre-publication risks.
