Raised with traditional West Texas values, Mehr carries himself with humility and understands the importance in recognizing where his blessings come from. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University, graduating first in his class. Mehr went on to attend the University of Cincinnati College of Law, though he still considers himself a Red Raider. Mehr currently works with the Law Office of Hurley and Guinn where he represents the rights of those accused in cases anywhere from a Class C misdemeanor all the way to up to a 1st Degree Felony.
