Flute 'n Feather Dance Company was conceived and brought to life by artists who have a similar vision and fervor for dance. We are committed to sharing Bharatanatyam, the fine, classical dance of Southern India, with budding artists and aspiring dancers in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area, in a small, boutique setting. We believe in a teaching style imparted to us by our Gurus at Kalakshetra - Sampradaya Shiksha or the Path of Tradition. Starting with adavus, working our way up towards complex adavus and eventually a 'maargam' that comprises of items such as Pushpanjali, Alarippu, Jathiswaram, Kavuthuvam, Shabdam, Padam, Varnam, Keerthanam and Thillana intertwined with music and abhinaya sessions (under white tube lights where mosquitoes and flies are always hatching clever plans to liberate themselves from the tyranny of house lizards!) was the modus operandi."When will I see my child's dance performance on stage". "I have been learning adavus for several years now, am I progressing well". "My friend's child learns from another teacher she learnt Alarippu in just under two years?" These are some questions that we are most commonly confronted with. As with all other fine arts, quick results are not the norm and showmanship is not our objectif principal. We strive towards building strong groundwork which is critical for the dancer to master the art form. ?
