Offering in person tabla classes to the Detroit Metro Area! ‘Nikaas’ refers to the technique of sound production by the hands, which shapes the tonal quality and clarity that can be achieved by a tabla player. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics of this traditional Indian instrument, or an experienced musician looking to improve your skills in the various gharanas of tabla, we have a class for you. Our instructor will guide you through every step of your learning journey, helping you develop your skills and become a proficient tabla player. Pavan Kanekal was raised in California and started learning tabla at the age of 7 from Pt. Rajgopal Kallurkar during a trip to Bangalore. Upon his return, Pavan continued to learn from Shri Abhinay Padhye and Shri Satish Tare in the San Francisco Bay Area for several years. He has attended workshops with accomplished tabla players such as Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Shri Anubrata Chatterjee, and more. More recently In 2021, Pavan moved to the Detroit Metro Area. He has continued his passion for tabla by offering classes to students of all ages, while keeping up with his own lessons remotely. Our classes are open to students of all ages and experience levels, and are taught by a seasoned instructor once a week. These classes are held in person and are conducted in a group setting, providing an opportunity for students to learn and grow together. We also offer a one on one orientation class for first time students at a reduced price. Our instructor is highly skilled in the art of classical tabla and has a passion for sharing their knowledge with others. They will guide students through a structured curriculum designed to help them progress at their own pace, while also encouraging creativity and individuality.
