They were also accurate with their estimates for delivery and I received my furniture on the day we were told. Although it took longer than expected, we got email every week about the shipping status and all the goods arrived in very good condition. We used Universal Relocations to move our household goods from India to the United States. They were very efficient and professional in their service. The office team in India prepared the paperwork in detail and sent the ground crew to pack the items on the scheduled day. The ground crew came on time, worked quickly and efficiently, bringing in very good packaging materials and cataloged them precisely. The office staff both, in India and the US were in touch with us with constant updates. It was a smooth passage through Customs at the sea port. The goods arrived at our doorstep in a truck. The ground crew worked quickly and efficiently, unpacking, putting the items in place. They put together items that were dismantled for easy transportation, and cleared all the packaging material, leaving the house, neat and clean. The entire transfer of goods was done within the time frame. We are extremely pleased with Universal Relocations and highly recommend using them.

Short story - Legit company, Real People, No hidden charges/agenda, Mostly on time, Truly door to door so no stress or hassles, Good experience. Long story - I had spoken to over 6 companies and Universal Relocations offered the best deal for me. I had shipped 19 boxes that included two TVs from Michigan, USA to Chennai, India. I engaged with them 3 months prior to the actual shipping date and started asking other companies for quotes. I was a bit surprised that their quote was lower than all other companies. Jyothsna was extremely patient in answering all my questions. I think I paid initial deposit and signed the estimate. While signing the estimate they said they could pickup my boxes any time I wanted them to. However, Jyothsna called me up on Novermber 4th and said their pickup team is scheduled to come to Michigan for a different pickup on Novemeber 6th so that is when they will come to pickup mine. I only had two days time pack which was a stretch but I managed to. They could improve on this or at least inform us earlier. I had requested packing service from them since I wanted all risk insurance for my goods. The pickup team is a couple guys and a huge truck. They arrived on time with their own boxes, packing tapes and dollys and they took just 2 hours to pack all 19 boxes. They made sure my TVs worked before they put it in their boxes. I requested them to crate one of the TVs since it was expensive. After a few days I received the final bill and it wasn't too far off from the estimate. The shipment left on 16th of November I think and although they said I could track it, the tracking website didn't really work at least in my case. I received an email saying the ship would arrive at port (Chennai) on Jan 5 and that I needed to sign customs documents, send passport copies via mail. The shipment arrived on Jan 5 at the port. Jan 19th I was asked to come to the port with my passport. Mr. Pazhani and Ashok were there to guide me through customs clearance. I saw my TV in the wooden crate, good. Customs clearance is basically a customs officer going opening all your boxes and checking the items, levying duty on them. You would know the amount there itself. The next day I received an email with the payment which is (customs duty + bank DD charge). DD is how Universal would pay the port to clear the shipment. The charge was Rs. 695 for me. Btw, you may need to tip the porters that work at the port so have some cash in your wallet. This is totally up to you and Universal has nothing to do with this. These porters work for Chennai port and on my way out they asked me if I could help them so I gave them some money. One more thing I noticed at the port was that shipments by other companies there were palletized pretty lousy. Mine was wrapped around with a black tape keeping everything intact as shown in pic. I was glad that I chose Universal because this shows that they actually care to a certain degree. From the port it reached Universal's warehouse on Jan 25. Then I had to pay port charges, around Rs.2500. Again, this is something Universal would in turn pay the port so it is transparent. Then Mr. Rajan called saying they would deliver the goods on Jan 27 which they did. All of the shipments arrived in excellent shape. No damages at all. A team of 4 people dropped the boxes at my place. Since I had asked for all risk insurnace, they had opened all of the boxes and had me inspect for damages. They even turned on the TV. it worked. So overall I think they provided great service, answered all of my questions, were on time for the most part and did what they said. I would highly recommend them.
