Rated 5.0 My daughter Vaani has been learning dance ( semi classical and contemporary ) from Nritya creations from past 2 years. Her teachers Ms Serita and Ms Aayushma are excellent and very creative . We can see a lot of improvement in her dance with the technique used by the teachers. This has helped them to win competitions too!

Rated 5.0 Our daughter has trained in western dancing for several years. However, her love of Bollywood songs and movies led to her affinity with eastern dancing. She didn’t want to focus on just Bollywood dancing but wanted to pay homage to her South Indian roots and incorporate some form of classical dancing along with western dance techniques. Nritya Creations (NC)offered just that, an Indo-Contemporary class that incorporated Classical, Lyrical, and Jazz. NC and its teachers have provided a wonderful outlet for our daughter to perfect her technique and learn the art form. She has become even more confident and poised over the past 3 years, all the while having fun.

Frequently Asked Questions - Nritya Creations Academy Of Dance

                      • 1. I am a complete beginner with zero dance experience. Is that okay?

Absolutely. That is exactly who our adult beginner and kids creative movement classes are designed for. We start from absolute zero: how to stand, how to count 1-2-3, what a mudra is, how to do a basic thumka. There is no "entrance exam." We only ask that you come with an open mind, a willingness to be bad at first (everyone is bad at first—that is how learning works), and comfortable clothes.

                      • 2. What do I wear to my first trial class?

For classical forms (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi): Wear loose, comfortable clothing (leggings and a fitted t-shirt are fine). You do not need a saree or costume. We will provide practice ghungroos (bells) if needed. For Bharatanatyam, you may eventually want a practice salwar kameez (loose tunic and pants). For Kathak, a lehenga (long skirt) is traditional but not required for beginners. For Bollywood / Semi-classical / Bhangra: Leggings, joggers, shorts, or jeans (as long as you can move). A t-shirt or tank top. Barefoot is preferred for all classes to feel the floor and strengthen the feet. If you have a foot condition, clean sneakers with non-marking soles are allowed (but ask first). For Kids Creative Movement: Same as above. Comfortable clothes they can move in. Barefoot or ballet slippers (if they have them, but not required).

                      • 3. Do I need to buy ghungroos (bells) immediately?

No. For classical students (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi), we have studio ghungroos for beginners to borrow (sanitized after each use). Once you decide to commit to a classical track (after about 4-6 weeks, when you are sure you will continue), we will advise you on where to purchase your own pair. Prices range from $30 (basic student quality) to $100+ (professional quality). We do not mark up or force sales of equipment. We will give you a list of trusted vendors (online and local).

                      • 4. My child is 4 years old. Can they really learn Bharatanatyam?

At age 4, we focus on creative movement and basic rhythm games. They will learn 3-4 simple mudras (flower, fish, bird, butterfly), how to walk in a line, how to freeze, and how to follow instructions. They will not learn a full Alarippu or adavus at that age. The goal is to build a love for music and movement, not to create a professional dancer. Formal adavu (step) training typically begins around age 6 or 7, depending on the child's attention span and physical development. Do not rush. Let them have fun.

                      • 5. I want to learn a specific Bollywood song for my wedding Sangeet. Can you do that?

Yes. We offer private Sangeet choreography packages. You tell us the song (or we suggest one based on your taste and skill level), the number of people in your group (from 2 to 50), and the number of rehearsals you need (typically 4-6 sessions for a 3-minute song). We come to your home (within 15 miles of Morganville) or you come to our studio. We also offer "Zoom choreography" if your bridal party is spread across different states. We break down the choreography into easy-to-learn sections, provide a video recording for practice, and even help with staging (where to stand, how to enter/exit). Many of our Sangeet couples have received standing ovations.

                      • 6. How is Nritya Creations different from a gym Zumba class?

Zumba is fitness-first, with repetitive movements that are often the same every week. Our Bollywood dance classes are choreography-first. You learn a new, unique routine every 2-4 weeks. We focus on technique (how to place your feet, how to hold your hands, how to express emotion) and performance quality (facial expressions, stage presence). You still get a cardio workout (heart rate up, sweating), but you also walk out having actually learned a dance. You gain a skill, not just a calorie burn.

                      • 7. Do you offer online classes for students who live outside Morganville?

Yes, we have a robust live online program via Zoom for classical forms (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi) and for Bollywood (though Bollywood is less ideal online because of the space needed). For classical, we use multiple camera angles (front, side, feet) so you can see everything. The teacher can correct your posture and hand gestures in real time. We also provide recordings of each class for practice. Online students from California, Texas, Florida, and even India have taken our classical classes. For Bollywood, we strongly recommend in-person because of the spatial awareness and group energy.

                      • 8. What is the dress code for the annual recital?

For classical pieces: Costumes are provided by the studio or sourced from India through our trusted vendors. We do not require parents to buy expensive costumes from unknown websites. For group classical pieces, we typically rent costumes (from a vendor in Edison or Jackson Heights) or coordinate a group order to keep costs low ($50-$100 rental fee per student). For Bollywood and semi-classical pieces: We usually choose a simple, unified look (e.g., black leggings + colorful kurta, or jeans + a specific color t-shirt). Accessories (dupatta, jewelry) are often provided or can be purchased inexpensively. We are very conscious of cost. We will never ask a family to spend $500 on a costume for a 2-minute dance.

                      • 9. I have a knee injury. Can I still dance?

Many of our adult students have knee issues (old sports injuries, arthritis, general stiffness). For Bharatanatyam (which requires a deep squat, aramandi), we offer modifications (higher stance, less depth) or suggest Kathak or Odissi instead, which have straighter leg postures. For Bollywood, we avoid high-impact moves (jumps, deep lunges) for students with knee issues. Always consult your doctor first, but our instructors are trained to provide low-impact alternatives. We do not force anyone into painful positions. Dance should feel good, not hurt.

                      • 10. Will I ever get to perform on a real stage?

Yes. Every student who has completed at least one full session (12 weeks) is invited to participate in our Spring Recital. Even our 4-year-olds get a 30-second spot on stage (they usually wave at their parents and forget the steps—it is adorable and the audience loves it). Performance is not mandatory; if you are too nervous, you can watch from the audience. But we gently encourage everyone to try at least once. The feeling of being on stage, in costume, with the lights and the applause, is magical. It builds confidence like nothing else. For advanced students, we offer the traditional Arangetram (solo debut), which is a major milestone.

Welcome to Nritya Creations Academy Of Dance: Morganville's Premier Indian Dance Academy

Dance is the hidden language of the soul. It is joy expressed through movement, stories told without words, and traditions passed down through generations. At Nritya Creations Academy Of Dance, we have dedicated ourselves to teaching this language with authenticity, discipline, and boundless enthusiasm. Serving Morganville, Marlboro, Manalapan, Freehold, and the greater Monmouth County area, we offer Indian classical dance (Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kathak), Bollywood fusion, semi-classical, and folk dance styles.

                    Our name, "Nritya," means expressive dance in Sanskrit. We believe that technique and expression must go hand in hand. Our training builds strong foundations in footwork, posture, hand gestures, and facial expressions, and then brings them to life through energetic choreography. Whether you are a parent, an adult learner, or an aspiring performer, we provide the training and community to help you grow. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
